ExPrEsS yOuRsElF! unc chapel hill

I mean isn’t the deadline Jan 21? So one day early is Jan 20. Besides, if you don’t get in, that won’t be a very good birthday present. :S And being deferred is the worst of all. Have to wait again till March.

Agreed - I think D being deferred will stink - I mean in or out, just give an answer!
My nephew was deferred, then waitlisted & didn’t get final answer - no - til mid-June.
It was a slow torture, and he didn’t make a deposit at his 2nd choice until late May.
Prefer to know final answer now, even if it’s no.

I think the decisions will be earlier than the 21st. In 2008 the decisions were out first Friday in January. I only knew they were coming out early because of college confidential!

Just because that happened in 2008 doesn’t mean it will happen again in 2010.

no, it doesn’t

hey guys check this post out from the official UNC admissions blog, I think it adresses some confusion on an early release date:
“Any chance we hear our decisions earlier than Jan 21st? This is a VERY late date in comparison to other EA schools. This weekend would be nice :).”
"Dear Anonymous 7:34 and 7:42:

We know this is a very stressful time for all of our applicants, and we’re sorry for any frustration our decision release may have caused you. As this post says, we still plan to post decisions on or around Jan. 21. Please know that we’re not delaying decisions unnecessarily. We really do take the time to read every application one by one – over and over again – and this work takes time. "

sounds to me like if wont be any earlier than like a day or so.

We’ve got a week and that’s always shorter than a month or four months like it used to be :slight_smile: I’m having panic attacks already! lol

Lol, tjl that was me ;).

Hahahahahaha

I’m nervous because I’m OOS. I didn’t get into the other OOS public (Michigan) that I applied to…I was deferred there. And UNC-CH is harder to get into OOS than Michigan so I’m freaking out!

I HIGHLY doubt my acceptance to UNC. I should have applied RD so they could see my first semester grades. I’ve got the test scores, but my GPA for UNC is rather low.

massgirl – you got into ND, though, and that’s harder to get into than either Michigfan or UNC, I’ll warrant!

UVAorBust–why don’t you send UNC your first-semester transcript? Or an email explaining that your GPA has improved. I’m sure they’d want to know that. You still have six days. It couldn’t hurt!!! And I think they’d be impressed by your enthusiasm and persistence.

UVAorBust - During Project Upilft they had us act as an AdCom and they said repeatedly that they never turn reject or turn away anyone based on one number. Trust me it holds some truth, the person we evaluated had a 3.0W and a 3.2UW. They were accepted.

Hmm, thanks guys! I mean, I’m no where in the vicinity of a 3.2 UW. I have a 3.85 UW, but if I include my first quarter grades from this year, my weighted GPA jumps up 2 points. I’m not trying to sound like a *****, but I know the average weighted GPA for OOS students is 4.6 and without my 1st quarter grades my weighted is a 3.4.

I’m going to fax a copy of my 1st quarter grades and include a little note saying that my GPA has increased significantly.

UVAorbust, I believe the reason why the average WGPA is so high there is because of the way they calculate weighted GPA in the NC high schools. Some GPAs are out of 6. And since 80% of people accepted are from NC, the average seems very high. But remember that colleges look at GPA within the context of your school.

Ohh I know guillaume. I believe UNC reweights GPA’s using the system of;
A=4, Honors A=4, AP A=6
B=3, Honors B=4, AP B=5

I’ve heard many times that adcoms do not recalculate GPAs.

It would make sense to recalculate and have everyone on the same scale but I’m not sure they do that :slight_smile: Meh as long as I get in, I could care less :D

@Twobittehz, when you say unc never rejects someone based on one number, does this apply to one grade as well? Because I did poorly in AP Calculus this semester (they won’t see my grade until after my decision comes out). Thanks :)
