Exactly… I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus because of being stressed out.

^^ haha same. But I’m gonna sleep like a baby tonight now that I’m in I think the neighbors heard my shrieks of joy!

ACCEPTED OOS…but so far 4/4 from my school have been accepted…seems strange?

I Find it somewhat tacky that I was sent an email encouraging me to apply to unc a few hours after I was rejected.

^ @Allenj: yeah, I got one two. It was talking about all the diversity at UNC. Clerical error?

^ Me too, I think they just send those emails out periodically. I’m still in disbelief, it’s like I have a hangover from stress and joy :)

Echo what Placido said earlier:

Accepted, OOS!

(Think: Deer in headlights)

Or, to use another analogy when opening the acceptance letter:

Movie: Taxi Driver

Actor: Robert DeNiro

. . .turns to camera, says

“Me? You talking to me?”

@allenj: That happened to me too. I think they were trying to influence your decision.

Congrats to all those who were accepted!
Best of luck to those who were rejected; It might not look like it now, but just know that you’ll find yourself in a great college not too long from now.

does anyone know when we find out about merit scholarships?

^Most people get scholarships if they are invited to scholarship day.

One of the posts on the admissions blog from last year said to expect scholarship day invites two weeks after you receive your decision. And I also read somewhere that only 150 kids are invited to scholarship day… Best of luck :)

If two kids from my public hs already got in EA, does this decrease my chances of getting in RD?

I mean absolutely no disrespect by this, but how exactly did your daughter get accepted? Those stats are hardly within the range for Chapel Hill. Again, I mean no offense, but did your daughter have a killer essay or something? What made her stand out?

Bdangle,

CollegeDad2011 is a ■■■■■. He/she just posted similar stats on LAST YEAR’s Boston College RD thread…The stats were, of course, different, but similar in that they were way low with ditzy ECs.

Addendum: Check this thread out:

It looks like one IP Address using different logins to create a conversation. ■■■■■ ALERT

Well right there is already like…it doesn’t say much. I mean, most of the kids applying out-of-state rank much much higher. There is a difference between “■■■■■” and “angered denied student”. ■■■■■■ were the kids who were posting “I WAS ACCEPTED :D” 3 days before the deadline, forcing everyone to check their MyUNC. The kid that’s saying “2000+ on SAT, X Activities, Y Honors, Z distinctions, denied” is probably a real kid experiencing the downfall of a deferral/denial. Truth of the matter is, it’s MUCH easier to get in UNC in-state. My friends with scores in the same range as your daughters were accepted outright. Out-of-state is comparable to IV leagues, for sure.

I am a resident of North Carolina and got accepted the other day. I have above a 4.6 weighted GPA and made 2070 on the SAT. Knowing myself and the others that got in/rejected, I would say that if one took at least a couple of AP classes senior year, is top 20 in-class (could be greater depending on class size), and made above 1800 on the SAT, you will definately be in.

@jd123abc

I wish that were true. I have around a 4.5 GPA, 1830 on SAT, ECs, 4 AP classes this year (3 last year), and am in the top 5% and was deferred.

^^ dude instate is so much easier. For me and my friends (in state) chapel hill was our safety school (even if I can never spell it… is that right?). We are also applying to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, MIT, Stanford, etc. The fact of the matter is that in state Carolina is easy, but out of state it becomes almost as difficult as some of the other schools I listed.
