extended deadline

who got the email with the poem and everything. How sweet. They even gave me a fee waiver.
They are so cool
:)

Could you elaborate?

here is the email, i think has something to do with students of "color"

While others are thinking of New Year’s resolutions
You’re strapped with app deadlines, but we have a solution.
We’re extending your deadline a week or two
To perfect essays and other application “to-dos!”
So if Swarthmore is still on your college list
Submit your app by Friday, January 25th!

If in 2008 your piggy bank’s empty
You have no reason to fear.
The Dean has offered to waive your app fee
A great way to start the New Year!

So send back this card
With your application,
And you’ll get a decision
Near spring vacation.

Dear :

I hope you enjoyed the rhyme, and that the extended deadline will give you a little more time with your Swarthmore application. If you need a copy of an application, you can download one from www.commonapp.org.

Best wishes for the New Year, and of course, with your college application process. If you should have additional questions, please feel free to email me at rkeaton1@swarthmore.edu.

Sincerely,
Ryan Keaton
Associate Director of Admissions
Director of Multicultural Recruitment

PS – You may have already received a fee waiver by e-mail…please feel free to use either.

I got the same email... but I'm not applying because I was admitted ED to another school. How would it work though? Doesn't commonapp lock you out of submitting applications after the deadline passes?

i really dont know, either way im almost done, just one less fee

I got that. I love this school....

Are you all URMs?

I'm all for diversity and equal opportunity for everyone, but this one just doesn't seem fair. My family can hardly afford app fees and everyone could use more time!

So was it extended only for people who got the email? Or for all RD applicants?

Also, Swarthmore is adorable. That rhyme was awesome!

just for the people who got the email or letter

that is a cute poem, do you guys know if other schools offer this?

Why is it only extended for certain people?! Is this true? What are the terms of the extension?

its only for people who got the email
sorry

Why did you get the email? Just wondering...

Well it was from the multicultural recruitment officer so that might explain a few things

Ahhh, yes, yes. I see. Well, that's awfully nice of Swarthmore. Aww. I want to go there more now.

but i'm multicultural and i didn't get one. :' (
boo for sending in apps early! haha.

I got that, I wondered if it was just because I'm black. I have never ever even considered Swarthmore, but since it's free i'll apply.

Are you serious? I don't think that's fair at all, and it makes Swarthmore look bad in terms of diversity -- they have to extend deadlines and waive fees to get URMs to go there? What's up with that? I know that's not exactly true, but it seems pretty silly regardless.

Then again, maybe I'm just bitter because I'm not a URM and struggling to get my "Why Swat" done in time ... haha.

i got the e-mail, but i'm not going to apply. i like swarthmore, but i refuse to write any more essays... :(

It's too bad Asians aren't URMs...I could have used a little extra time.
