So since earlier this year I got an e-mail from Wake to apply early by October 15th.. I didn't. They sent me a direct application again and said it was due Jan. 1st... again I didn't apply. Now they've sent me another e-mail extending the deadline until tomorrow Jan. 20th. This has happened with a couple other schools like Fordham and Washington and Lee.

So the question is... do these schools just really want me or is it that they want my money (although Fordham and W&L apps were free, but still gotta pay for SATs and transcript to be sent)

Also, does this mean if I do apply I'll get in?

Why would you ask a board of strangers that question without at least saying your stats and if you have any kind of hook (URM? multimillionaire parents?) that would make you very appealing to the colleges?

Sorry I’m new and I thought people could look at my stats profile…

But to answer your questions…

I think it means that if you apply, you have better than average chances of getting in. Apply if you’d be interested in going to those schools. Don’t bother applying if you don’t like those schools.

Certainly it could mean they really want you. It also could mean they want more applicants so they can accept the same number of students as they would have, but a smaller* percentage *of applicants to make themselves look more selective. Selectivity is part of the rankings “game.” Agree with Northstarmom that if you are interested in these schools, apply. If you are not interested, just ignore the emails.

I am interested in Fordham and actually just applied to W&L. I guess it’s just hard to figure out if this is just a scheme to improve selectivity like alamemom said. Don’t want to spend my money to help their stats but rather to help myself.

you’re right… It’s true that I am more interested in other schools however, I’ve only heard back from one school- USCarolina honors college and the schools that have extended their deadlines are great schools so I don’t know if I should try to improve my chances.

Only apply if you want to go there. College do that all the time. At least five colleges keep extending their deadline for me too. I think if you did apply to them though, you would probably get in.

oh, i wouldn’t bet on getting in just because they’re courting you like that! I think all these schools are extending their deadlines to get more applicants and thereby increase their selectivity! They all seem to have applicants that “experienced technical difficulties” in submitting their applications, so “that’s” why they’ve extended their deadlines! I have to confess, though, that my D did send to two schools after they extended the deadlines. They were already on her list, she just couldn’t get to them on time. Although we did apply later, I actually don’t think it was right of the schools to do this, and not fair to the students who did get apps in on time!

Yeah, kind of hard to resist those free apps though haha. But I guess if I’m not interested it doesn’t make any sense to apply (DUHHH!) it’s just so stressful this college deal so I’m glad it’s over!

Now I can just spend all my time worrying about whether I’ll get in… :D
