Hello,

I was just wondering if I could get the Extended time on the ACT or SAT tests(hearing impairment). I used to have an IEP from 1st Grade to 8th Grade. I attended an all deaf school during pre-school and kindergarten. I am an awful test-taker, and extended time would be so much efficient for me. It is required that you have an IEP currently in order to get extended time and how hard is it to get approved?

Are you currently on an IEP? If so, you can request the extra time. If your IEP already gives you accomodations for extra time on tests then you may be able to get extended time. If you don’t have this documentation, it’s doubtful. I’m no expert, but my younger son is in 8th grade and I just sat in on a lecture about the process. My son already has an IEP and accomodations for longer test times, so I’m hoping he will get accomodations for SAT/ACTs.

I was told to start the process as soon as I get a letter from the school explaining the process. (Before the beginning of high school freshman year).

Good luck.

What was your IEP for? Do you need extra time on tests that don’t require hearing to take? I don’t think being a “bad test taker” will be sufficient to get you extra time on the ACT.
