I had some really nasty depression the first semester of my 11th grade year. I had a rigorous course load, and that semester I failed a dual credit US history course (oddly enough, my college transcript says I got a B), got lots of B's, and didn't take honors or AP English (not important?). I don't have any records to document my depression and didn't even see anyone informally for it. My parents or counselor can't say anything about it, etc. Is it worth writing an extenuating circumstances letter? I'm worried that my grades that semester would jeopardize my chances of getting in, and I'm really excited about applying to McGill...

I am quite sure that McGill requires formal documents concerning extenuating circumstances, thus if you cannot produce these documents, I don’t think that you can put down that you have extenuating circumstances-I would still call them to confirm this though. Good luck!

Thanks. I’ll ask them to make sure.
