Extra Curricular Activities?

Hey guys!

I just sent in my application yesterday and feeling pretty good. I have great grades (97%), a pretty good ssat score (90%), and promising essays. I'm a freshmen and I'm going to be applying as a tenth grader to the top boarding schools in the East Coast (ex. HADES).

My main extra curricular activity is debate (won several tournaments, on the national team, received individual awards for speaking). I'm just hoping that being on the national team will make me stand out (I wont be telling which country I'm from for privacy reasons). The only thing that worries me is that I've been debating for a full year (but spent a lot of time on debate), do you think the AO's will look pass this - or will this affect me and is this activity something that will make me stand out?

And of couse, I have other ECs like varsity soccer, comm service, and choral singing which I have been doing for 3+ years

Please tell me what you think! Also, feel free to share your ec's :-)

I think you’re in good shape so far. You have a EC that spans for 3+ years, which shows dedication. Your ECs are also diverse-ranging from atheletics to speech to the arts and community. With such a great profile, it really ends up to chance. Maybe the school will need someone like you, with your epic debate skills-and maybe they need a mandolin player. Good luck!

As for my own ECs, I have Art, Music, Community Service, and some Academic Clubs. And since I’m paranoid, I won’t delve into specifics! ;)
