Extra curriculars

When applying to a school, did you sort these out in any way? By grade level, classes taken or by hours, etc?

I'm trying to decide how to list them and what kind of detail to add, if any...and what exactly, out of the things i've participated in, would be worth adding in. Any suggestions as to how you guys did it?

it is tough to answer your question but here goes. each application will ask you to list your ec activities in a different format. it would be helpful to write your list down on paper so you do not forget anything. be sure to list awards and key positions played of writing down sports.

Ah okay. The applications I have in here right now that I looked over just have space to list them, and I was wondering if it was worth it to list by grade or what.

Do you guys think there are any extracurriculars not worth listing? For example, I would attend church with my friend most weeks last year and I was a member of the youth group. Every week we would show up and help out with something different, like teaching Sunday School or watching kids, setting up brunch if they had it, etc. We also attended some church camps and did fundraisers like running/cooking for bake sales. I'm not exactly sure how to word it though, because it was not at all consistent. Is this worth mentioning in some way or should I just leave it out?

Also...what about things i'm doing this summer?

My son's application (he only applied to one school) instructed him to list his ec's in order of importance to him, so he made a list and included how long he had been involved in each activity and any special awards or leadership positions with each activity. Our church youth group was definitely on his list and should be on yours as well as it involves a lot of community service hours. I would put the name of your church and "Youth Group". You could also not that you had done x hours of community service with this organization. I would add the things you have planned for the summer at the end.

I honestly have no idea how many hours I did there. Would it be alright to just put that I was involved with the church and then next to it list what I helped out with there and the events I was part of?

And thank you for clarifying about the summer thing. I'm hopefully doing music, art, and volunteering so i'd like to be able to put those on there.

For youth group, we listed it as "UCC Youth Group, grades 5-present. Participated in various community service activities with this group: serving at local food kitchen, raking/yardwork for elderly community members, babysitting during church services and meetings, assisting with Sunday School classes, etc. Also participated in two major trips with this group, one to Biloxi, MS and one to Grenada, West Indies to rebuild homes and a nursing home damaged by hurricanes." Just list several of the events that you do remember doing with your Youth Group.
