Im currently a high school senior and to make a long story short when i started I high school i didn’t really think i had a shot at good schools but 4 years later i have 35 on the ACT and a 4.24 GPA and 3.975 UW GPA. Academically i think I’m fine but my EC’s are pretty much robotics for 2 years and leadership and volunteer groups. Does anyone have any ideas of a EC that would look good on my college app so i can get into a top college it would be really appreciated.
It’s kind of too late to “start” an EC in your senior year. You’re better off just working on those essays. Colleges will suspect that you started the ECs just because you wanted to include it on your application.
Yea I get that but are there like events i can be apart of that would help out and thanks @anxiousenior1
Look for volunteer opportunities in your area, that’s the best advice I can give you. You can’t really gain a lot of EC experience your senior year of high school.
@Badgers21 if i joined the lacrosse team would that help
For one year? Not really.
Can you expand on your robotics extra-curricular? Do you mentor any middle school FLL leagues? Or do any fundraising in support of your team?
Pray tell, why on Earth do you feel you need to augment your profile? Present who you are as you have here, detail all your strengths and highlights, and go eat some ice cream. Seriously.
Nothing you do at this point in terms of ECs will show the long term dedication and leadership that can boost an application. If you want to spend Thanksgiving at a soup kitchen, join the lacrosse team, or do anything else you consider to be worthy of your time and energy that is great but do it because you want to – it won’t make a significant difference in your application. Last minute attempts to pad ECs are recognized as such.
Go with what you have done and highlight your achievements. The quality and depth of your ECs is much more important than the number of ECs. And keep in mind that the top tier schools are hyper-competitive so apply to a wide range of reaches, matches, and safety schools.
Thanks for the responses and @mjrube94 I do help with getting funding
