Extra Curricular Mayhem?!

So I signed up to take five AP classes next year {Computer Science, Chemistry, Language and Composition, Calculus AB, United States History}, and that's fine and dandy but my issue is that I think I may be extra-swamped consider the extracurricular activities that I'm planning to be part of next year.

SECME - Southeastern Consortium for Minors in Engineering. I'm the president of my school's chapter, and it can be chaotic with time management and organization because it's a competitive club. I know from this year's experience that being president is time consuming and slightly stressful. [Meetings are every other Friday after school, but we have "workshop sessions" other days of the week as competition nears.]

Beta Club - I'm going to be the president next year, but my school's chapter is pretty lax, so I'm not too concerned about it. I also heard from a current officer that it's not much of a commitment. [Meetings once a month during lunch.]

NCSSSMST - National Consortium for Secondary Schools in Math, Science and Technology. It's pretty much a science club that raises money for STEM field trip opportunities. [Meetings every other Friday after school.]

Ambassadors - My school is a magnet school with only students that apply for it, so we have ambassadors that represent the student body and visit Middle Schools, hold open house events, etc. I would only go to the required events, most probably. [I heard that events are only like, every other month.]

BPA - Business Professionals of America. There are sub competitions like Parliamentary Procedures and etc.I don't think it would be /that/ much of a commitment. [Meetings are once a month afters school.]

NHS - I heard that at my school, all you have to do is attend meetings. [Once a month on Thursday.]

Experimental Science - Odds are, there won't be an Experimental Science class next year at my school, but I'm still really intent on going to the National Intel ISEF before I graduate. There is a club for it, and I'd have the resources and help to have a pretty good chance. [Once a week on Tuesday.]

Student Council - I would be the Junior class secretary. [I don't actually know how often they meet, but I would assume that it would be every other week at the most.]

Do you think it would be doable to be in all of them? I was considering taking myself out of BPA and/or Student Council because the extra commitment might end up being too much. I'm really hoping that there'll be an Exp. Science class, because I'd be able to have much more time for science fair, but if there isn't, I'd probably see if I could spend one of class periods in a computer lab working on it instead.

Any advice for not getting overwhelmed with 5 AP classes + 5-8 Extracurriculars?

Just make sure you plan your time. It’s doable for students that are super smart. Most of your activities seem to only be weekly meetings, which don’t take that much time.

It seems doable to me.
To be honest, a lot of these things towards the latter part of the list don’t sound like they’ll take up very much time. Which is good, since it’ll allow you to allocate more time to the more demanding activities you mentioned.

That’s true. I think what I’m concerned about is the confliction between club activities and classes. There was this one week this year where I had deadlines for SECME, BPA, and science fair, and it was really stressful.

I know with Beta, NHS, Ambassadors, and Student Council shouldn’t take up too much time. You’re right, it’d probably let me spend a lot of time on the other three. Thanks!

It seems doable! I think that you are covering a broad spectrum of activities so I think that it will be very beneficial for you to continue to pursue all of them. It’s good that you are not doing a sport because that would be very time consuming but I would suggest that you start to run or something as a stress reliever. That’s what I do and I find it very helpful both mentally and physically :)

If I had time for a sport, I totally would’ve been set on weightlifting, but it meets two times a week and I know my parents wouldn’t want to pick me up from school even more frequently. :’( But you’re right! I definitely plan to start going to the gym on weekends and/or start jogging with my sister!

@awakeningvenus‌ if you have one of those “everything” weeks, tell your teachers. Usually they will be understanding and may give you extensions on things. I’ve had that problem before because I am in 8 music ensembles plus a whole lot of other EC’s. My teachers have been very understanding and have accommodated me when possible. Such as in december when I had 8 concerts within 3 weeks- that was not fun…

I’ll keep that in mind! I have had a couple of those everything weeks, but those were more like deadlines than actual events. I think I should also make sure my time management next year is good.
