My D will be attending UCLA this fall and is very excited. I was looking into performance opportunities in the way of chorus and other vocal ensembles. Checking the music dept. site it appears as though everything is by audition and selective. Will she have any outlets for her love of music if she is not a music major? I know if she were going to a less selective, smaller university she could probably join almost any group but at UCLA I worry that most opportunities will be for majors only. Any idea?

music 90B is a nonaudition chorus class you can join.
90A you audition for

music 90b is actually an audition class applebell and i highly recommend your daughter either join 90b or 90a or also chamber singers and womens choir. it is AMAZING

Both choirs(Chorus and Chorale) are an audition chorus, even though the registrar says otherwise.

however you definitely do NOT need to be a music major to join. i know several people involved in choir (not sure which one...) and they aren't music majors. so it isn't as if they think non-music majors aren't good enough, if that's what you're worried about :)

My S will be attending UCLA as a biology major but his passion is music. Trying to figure out how he can stay involved in music. How do other people do this? Can you be part/involved with the music department without being a music major? Unfortunately, the only music minor they offer is in history. Any suggestions?
