Vocal choirs?

Hi All!

D has been in choir (including auditioned chamber choir) since she was in 3rd grade. She is not planning on being a music major. Can anyone give us any insight into University Singers (which requires an audition) vs. University Choir (which is open) vs. the 1 credit Chamber Choir class for non-majors? She’d like to continue singing but isn’t sure about how welcome a non-music major would be in University Singers.
thanks!

I see on The crimson White paper that the university singers are performing at Carnegie Hall on Monday. Thats pretty impressive.

Well, kind of. D’s HS choir performed at Carnegie Hall last June. Yes, it is an honor, but there are a number of companies that package those types of things; obviously the schools have to send an audition tape in and be selected but I got the feeling that Carnegie Hall didn’t oversee the process.

It was amazing though. D has the Carnegie Hall poster over her desk :)

I recently met a lady whose daughter is an engineering student at Bama. Her D sings with a choir at Bama.

A wide variety of vocal ensembles are available to all students on the University of Alabama campus.

In addition to the ensembles outlined above, other non-curricular vocal groups which are open to all university students include the Men’s A Cappella Ensemble “Subject to Change” and the showchoir “Resonance.”
