I am currently a junior, and I am interested in applying to the College of Engineering next year. I am currently involved in multiple extra curricular activities, however very few of them pertain to engineering. I'm the Seceretary General of Model United Nations, in Junior Statesmen of America, and I volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, but I don't do anything speccifically relating to Engineering. Will this affect my chances at admission at all, and is it important to be involved in engineering in order to be accepted? Thank you

I think that being involved outside of the classroom in engineering activities is certainly a plus, but other unrelated extracurriculars that you are interested in and passionate about are also good, as they help to show off your other qualities and interests. But it would be nice to have participated in math team or something. Do you have anything like that?

Yeah… Save the volunteering at Ronald McDonald House, the other ECs are not that good.
They will not see “secretary general” but rather just see “model UN” and the same for the other EC. Why? Well, it’s not that uncommon for people to be involved in the model UN.

My 9th grade was just me going to school and then coming back home. Only by the end of probably 3/4 of the year did I take my future seriously and start finding out every and any thing I could do to show my passion for engineering.
So, I became part of the tech staff at my school, worked with the lights and sounds club for the school plays, and multiple other things.

Which reminds me, I hope that your definition of multiple isn’t only three clubs. -.-
That does not seem like a lot to me - maybe your school only offers those, though. I don’t know.

You’re a junior now, eh… Well, you have the summer to go find something to do.
Suggestion? Go to a local college and find a professor to ask for some sort of internship thing. I did this and landed myself a pretty good run working with one of his (the professor I got) students on a project. I learned some programming, too!

Any job will do!
Clean his desk? - “Worked closely with the professor of ___ everyday learning things about __”
Wash up the lab the students use? - “Got to use the facility at to ___”
Hopefully you can get an opportunity like I did, though.

Only you can decide your fate! However, you are already late in making that future bright for this should have been done yesterday! Get to it.
Go!
Stop reading this!
I said get off of that computer and go look for something.
Now!

!!!

I agree with Supervisor. You should see if there’s anything related to engineering or science that you can participate in this summer. For example, I had the opportunity of attending an engineering camp at my state university in the summer between my junior and senior years. Seeing if local colleges have anything for you is a great place to start.
