Extra Curriculars

Hi,

I’ve wanted to go to UCLA for a while and I hear the school cares a lot of extra curriculars which I don’t have many of…
I’m only in 10th grade so I still have time but I’m wondering how important extra curriculars really are? I have a few very small basic things to put as extra curriculars and am going to start volunteering soon which I hope will be enough. What do you guys think? What do you all recommend I try?

There’s no formula for getting into UCLA, but when it comes to extracurriculars, I think quality over quantity is important. They’d rather see you be committed to a few things and spend a lot of time on them than jump around and do a bunch of random clubs. I only have three extracurriculars, but combined, I spend around 15 hours per week on them, and have since freshman year. I say pick something you’re interested in or something that will help support the major you want, and have a focus rather than try to get in as many as possible. You’re limited to the clubs you can put on your application and they ask you to pick the most important ones.
