How Important are Extracurriculars?

I plan to apply to UC Davis, Berkeley, and UCLA. By the time I apply I should have approximately a 3.7+ GPA and have completed all the pre-major requirements for majors such as neuroscience and molecular biology. I currently work in a restaurant part time and will have around 200 hours of hospital volunteering experience by the time I apply.

I am not a leader or member of any clubs or organizations. Will this affect my chances at getting into these schools?

What should I do to increase my chance of acceptance? By the way, my number one choice is Berkeley for molecular biology.

TAP is the main thing to do to increase your chances.
the next thing would be leadership roles. FEWER, more important roles is better.

I am also a first generation college student. How much does this up my chances?

I don’t really have time to take on leadership roles in campus clubs and in my opinion the TAP program is a waste of time… just extra work to get a stamp on your application. I took an honors TAP class and thought it was a joke. No challenge. The college I will be attending next semester doesn’t have it anyway. Am I doomed?

extra cirriculars are ANYTHNG outside of school work - obviously you could even lie although I wouldn’t advise that :)

don’t have time?

then you must have SOME ECs.
work
volunteer stuff
sports or similar(I put that I do long distance running and weight lifting)

ANYTHING…

Yeah, I have volunteering and a part-time job. I can put weight lifting as an extracurricular? lol. I have some EC’s but when I look at all the “rate my chances” threads, they all seem to be club leaders or on the student senate or what not

Gosh…I have done absolutely NOTHING outside of my school work hahah
