Extra letter of recommendation

Teacher Evaluations : Stanford University

The Stanford site says they accept a maximum of 2 teacher evaluations. I have two supplemental recs as well...does this mean they would not read those if I mailed them in? In that case I won't..just making sure.

why do you have two supplemental recs? if this is for the fine and performing arts supplement and let’s say that you’re mailing one for visual arts and one for music then that’s fine since one is required per supplement. if you’re not submitting these recs for a fine and peforming arts supplement then you want to avoid sending them. Stanford does not like to recieve documents that are more than required.

an extra LOR is different than the teacher evaluations…

“You may submit one additional letter of evaluation if you have another person, not a teacher or counselor, who knows you well and will provide us with information about you that your other recommenders will not. We ask that you instruct your additional recommender to place your full name–as listed on your application, your birth date and your current high school at the top of the recommendation letter. Please remember that a letter from a famous person or Stanford alumnus is not going to help us reach a decision if that person is unable to add new insights to your application.”

The admissions officers will read 30 letters if you send 30 supplemental letters of rec.

that said, they will NOT be happy campers if you send more than the ONE optional letter.

Do yourself a favor and only send one.

Alright thanks, yea I think I will just send one…the problem is I don’t know what my teachers wrote in their recs…so I don’t know if things will be repeated.

Hello,

I have a question that is kind of unique to me.

Stanford mentions clearly that they need two core teacher recs. I have them

But for my supplemental, I got my research supervisor (who happens to be a teacher in my school, but doesn’t teach me).

I did this coz he knows a lot about me in terms of my research activities and my passion that my other teachers would in no way know.

Is this ok?

^This is what I really wanted to know, too. But my recommender is a teacher leading a community and service program.

My question is very similar to Mega and indian monster. My optional recommender happens to be a teacher at my school but never taught me. They were actually the moderator for three of my extracirriculars, all of which I was very passionate about. As a result, I feel like my recommender was able to see a different side of me as opposed to a teacher who taught me for one of their subjects.

as long as they know you in a non-classroom context that is fine.

It’s 2 teacher’s rec, and 1 extra rec. They highly recommend sending the extra rec ONLY if it’s really good or shows another sense of character.
