Extracurricular-Foreign Languages

In the Extracurricular section of the Common App, you can choose “Foreign Language” as an activity.
I have been teaching myself Russian and Hindi for the past 2-3 years, and I wanted to put that onto the application. I am planning on majoring in Linguistics and Foreign Languages, so I thought that putting this on would help show my interest in this field.

However, is there anything I need to do to prove that I have been spending my time on this? There were not any standardized tests that I could take or really anything that I could do. On the application, I just put:
I am teaching myself ________

Is that okay? Does anyone know if I can make this better?

Thanks for your help

Get a Russian penpal.

That’s fine; you can’t prove being club president on apps, so don’t stress! AP Russian is a pilot test right now, so it’s not associated with the College Board. If any schools teach Russian where you live, try to take it there. Alternatively, if there is a Russian cultural center or consulate nearby, see if you can help out at some cultural events. It’s a good way to practice your Russian and to meet people. Udachi!

Thank you both!
