Hey guys, I’m a high school freshman, and I do two main extracurricular activities right now: piano and soccer. I have won many awards for piano, but I do not have any important and notable accolades for soccer. I played for the JV team this year but I broke my wrist half way through the season and was out for the rest of the season. I also play club soccer, where I play for a good team (one of the most famous ones in my state), but on the B team, and I’m a starter. I have won two debate tournaments in middle school, but I’m not sure I can put that on my college app. I might get more serious in my club activities like MUN (I was out for the first season because I couldn’t write, but I went to one conference for the spring season). I am also a student council representative for my grade, but you never know if you may be elected next year or not, so I can’t count on it.
With sophomore year coming up, I don’t know what classes I would like to take, and whether or not I should drop soccer. I love soccer and spend more time on soccer than piano. I don’t know if I should drop it because I don’t see myself getting anywhere significant with soccer other than putting “2 year varsity soccer player” (assuming my school cancels next falls soccer szn cuz of corona). However, playing soccer is also really fun for me (despite getting racially bullied sometimes). Could you guys please help?
You haven’t said anything about your grades, which are very important.
However, in terms of extracurricular activities to me it seems like you are doing very well. You are participating in activities that you want to do. You are doing them very well.
“I’m a high school freshman”
You are young. You are doing well.
Relax. Have some ice cream (after dinner of course).
Do ECs you enjoy as long as they don’t get in the way of your academic performance. If you like playing soccer, the camaraderie, the exercise etc. then it is fine to continue – if you want to stop playing that is fine as well.
