Extracurriculars for aspiring English major?

Could you give some volunteering ideas to do with English? I was thinking I could volunteer at a library or possibly volunteer as an editor of some place. Also, I have been entering writing contests and trying to submit to literary magazines, but I dislike this because I can spend hours on a single essay and have it not get accepted (I have only two and a half years left of high school to make my resume looking pretty, so I can’t be wasting it). What other ideas can you think of?

Refer to the answer I gave to the same question you posted for a potential philosophy major.

It seems that you are doing these things for the sake of college which isn’t what they are looking for. They want genuine motivation. Attempting to make your resume look pretty will not help you get into colleges.

Sorry if I’m mistaken, just the impression I got from your post.

I think there are plenty of opportunities to do English based EC’s. Become a writer for the school newspaper, offer to write newsletters for some local or school clubs, tutor students in English (in-school English and out-of-school English like SAT/ACT/AP…)

You could also just read and talk about the variety of books you read and how they impacted you in your essays.
