Extracurriculars for Transferring

Hi everyone,

I am a first year student at a Canadian university studying economics and I would really like to transfer to Yale after my sophomore year. I have many reasons on why I want to transfer, so the essays shouldn’t be an issue. However, it is my extracurriculars that I am worried about. At my current university, undergraduates aren’t allowed to participate in research (a big reason why I want to transfer), and there aren’t many (if any) outside opportunities related to economics either. So is it still worth applying with my lack of ECs (I’m aware of the acceptance rate)? Are ECs even that important for transfers?

If you guys could suggest some extracurriculars that would be great. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you!

International transfers are unheard of. Unless you’re a hooked applicant there is little chance.

Would I be at a disadvantage if I applied?

@mvb0806 Not at all, the only disadvantage is not applying. I’m just saying it’s extremely rare.

@okon2122 Alright, thank you. By the way, do you think that international transfers are more common at a school like Penn?

Hi, what do you think about my case? I want to transfer to a good college in the USA because in my college and in my developing country actually research and job opportunities are really, really scarce and are only for graduates students or higher. I have some extracurriculars but they aren’t that impressive. I won a scholarship to London to study English due to top grades in Cambridge FCE exams in the British institution of my country. I also graduated in the top 1% of my school, am studying my 3rd and 4th languages and am ranked first in my Department at college. I also aced the SAT with an 800 in Math Level 2 and 780 in Physics. Do you think I have a chance somewhere? Opportunities here I repeat are very limited and usually for people with good connections.
