Volunteering at a hospital in Child care department

I just want to know if you think this is way too "much" and they might look down upon it. I honestly can't quit any of these though.. except for the hospital volunteer program. Do CCs think I should drop stuff and focus on academics instead (i.e. self-study more APs or take more college classes). I'm spending a significant amount of time and a couple has produce very good rewards :P. Any advice would be great! Thank you! Class of 2018's MIT applicant :o wish me luck

Too many activities is never a problem. A laundry list is a problem. The difference is whether or not you can talk about it - do you just say that you’re president, or can you talk about what you’ve accomplished in the club in the role of president (or as a member)? If your titles are just titles, I wouldn’t bother listing them. If you can explain for each one in depth what you do, it’s totally worth keeping.

Exactly what PiperXP said. As an editor-in-chief of one club, a non-president leader in 3 others, and a member of several more, I don’t imagine ever having the time to lead 5 groups! Think about these questions when you apply: How often do they meet? What do you do? What have you accomplished in each one?

Simply being president is good, but like Piper said, make sure you can demonstrate that your leadership was more than just a title :)

I think whether or not all these leadership roles are too much depends on two factors.

1) Do you want to do them? If you say, “I honestly can’t quit any of these though,” through a true sense of internal motivation, you should definitely continue to be in the club.

2) Your surroundings. At a big, highly academic suburban school there would likely be other leaders of your caliber in the student body. If so, I would share some of the responsibility around ala luisarose, above. If you are at a small school, there might not be a deep pool of enthusiasm and leadership, and the club might fold if you declined to lead. Then I would say it makes sense to have that many leadership roles.
