Extracurriculars in Junior years

I read in an article that said doing a lot of extracurriculars in junior year is bad because admission officers view it as way to poly your chances. Is this true? So should I just stop wasting my time on extracurriculars? I regret not doing any extracurriculars in my freshmen or sophomore year because I was shy and not knowledgable. Is it too late?

You should do EC’s that interest you, expose your passion, and/or relate to what you might like to do in college and life. You should not chooses an EC to polish an application; admissions will see right through that.

I want to major computer science and I just discovered that there are a lot of computer competitions online. Can I join them? Or will admissions see right through them. Almost all the EC I wanted to join is computer-related.

Since you can only put 10 extracurricular, is there really any point doing more than 10?
