Extracurriculars? Shooting for Ivies and top LACs?

Hello! Trying to put together my common app and I’m stressing over the extra-curriculars. I have more than 10 but am trying to condense/only put down my passions but there are still several categories that could appear scattered. I also moved my junior year so I have to put down choir from 9th and 10th grade, and new ones for 11th and 12th.

I have affiliations with several political organizations (model UN, JSA, speech and debate). Is it ok if I categorize those three into one activity section?

I have about 5 for music; that is my biggest passion.

I have one section for writing; I’m the editor-in-chief of one publication and I edit for a different one, so I grouped those two together.

I have a section for theater (drama club and musical theater productions!)

I then have other sections for community service.

Does this sound like too many extracurrics? Does it sound scattered? All of these are passions. Any tips for how to portray extracurriculars? Any tips for how many to put? I left out some things. For example, I played soccer for years but left that out because I stopped going into junior year and I have a lot of other passions.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME

I am sorry for the craziness^^^ I’m evidently quite stressed out but so is everyone! Have a lovely day

I don’t see speech and debate as “political”. I would not sweat going over 10 – just use additional info section. My kid had 14 a couple years ago, and got into Swat, U of Chicago, and Harvey Mudd. If they do logically group (eg, music), that is fine. You can create an activity, say " see additional information", then have a header in add’l info where you bullet out specifics.

General rules my kid used:

  • Any activity done at least through jr. year was listed
  • Any activity where an award or leadership position was involved was listed, even if dropped before jr. year
  • Any activity related to a proposed major or EC planning to continue in college was listed
