Extracurriculars?

Hey there!

Im a sophomore at an all girls catholic school in NYC and my grades are pretty amazing (don't wanna brag, but yeah)

However, my school offers some terrible extracurriculars.

There was no debate or model un or anything. Theres a crochet club however. >_<

I started the debate club legit out of frustration and started another club called Asian Cultural Society (even though I'm not asian, I'm African, its pretty much a club centered on Korean culture but we couldn't call it the Korean club bc nobody would join)

Im amazing at track however but my school doesn't offer track. ): Ive tried to start track but my flapjacking school declined.

Im considering starting a non profit in South Korea for mentally disabled children that get thrown away

Does anybody have any extracurriculars or ideas for me please?

I plan on majoring in brain and cognitive sciences or neuroscience/neurobiology in college. Im aiming for Ivies and would actually prefer to do something in a hospital or in the medical field in my free time. Im volunteering at hospitals and writing a paper on genetics (bc for some reason genes just get on my nerves and i decided to look into how it works) and I'm doing a program that i got a scholarship to on cancer and neuroscience this summer at Yale and UCLA.

But truly, besides all that, my extracurriculars scare me. Should i transfer to my local public school with more AP classes and extracurriculars? Or stay in my private school? If so, does anybody have any suggestions for good extra curricula's and or medical programs?

thanks in advance!

Hey there, I’m coming from what appears to be the “greener grass” to you- I’m coming from a public school that offers more AP classes and extracurriculars. I’m also majoring in biomedical engineering, so we have similar aspirations. :)

Why don’t you try doing track with another school? Keep your original school, but compete on another team. I know that in my school, a girl really likes swimming but we don’t have a swimming team so she swims with a nearby school. If you’re having to make clubs at your school, it may be too much. I would suggest looking at local organizations not affiliated with the school. For example, Girl Scouts, Mensa, etc. There are a lot of organizations that schools do not offer. As for medical programs, try interning/doing research with a local hospital or even a professor from a nearby college.

After reading your post, I’m very glad I decided to stay with my high school- I’ve done lacrosse, soccer, cross country, basketball, newspaper, jazz band, band, NHS, interact club, spanish club all with my school!

ECs done outside of school count, as does a job.

You could join a club track team.
