do you guys have any ideas for good extracurricular/leadership options i can do?
i am a junior in high school and my dream school is Northwestern University..
all i have are 4 different clubs, national society of high school scholars, link crew, hospital volunteering, and a lot of leadership activities at my church, like tutoring, pathfinders(its this group leadership thing where u go out and do helpful activites), orchestra, and i've also done a lot of community service, i've been on mission trips, cleaned the beach, fed the homeless stuff like that

any other suggestions?? i really want to get into that school and i feel that the stuff i have wont cut it.

isn’t national society for high sch. scholars that thing that you get a post card in the mail for and just have to pay a fee to “join”? I thought that was a scam… is that what you’re talking about?

To me, it seems like you’ve done a lot. Just remember that ECs are normally quality over quanitity so just stay really involved in the activities that you’ve got

yes i was told is wasnt a scam so i signed up haha

yes i’ve been doin most of these since freshmen year…but it just seemed to me that they’re just mediocre activities and don’t stand out i guess
Thank for the advice!

Stick to your most rewarding activities and dump the ones that only suck up your time. You’ll have more free time and you’ll be a more interesting applicant. All-doing NHS/Link Crew/hospital-volunteering applicants are mediocre because they’re too common. When was the last time you saw an Asian poet on CC?

Cut all excess commitments and devote your time to persue the activities that you feel are the most meaningful. No one online will be able to tell you what those activities are.

If you can’t think for yourself regarding the things you like to do, maybe you just aren’t cut out to be competitive for NU. Don’t rely on strangers to tell you what to do. Your own interests should speak for themselves on your application.

Definitely focus on what you like to do.

drunkofdreams, the hospital-volunteering applicants are getting really common nowadays; many of my friends started that this summer but I decided to work part time as a tennis coach (tennis will be my number 1 activity on the App). Would it still look bad if I don’t have that “mediocrity” EC on there?

Define mediocre. If the OP is really involved in his hospital volunteering and has done fundraisers and stuff like that, then no; that would not be mediocre.

It would help if you list the 4 clubs and the positions you hold in them. Furthermore, what are your stats?

yeah you should spend time on the things you love. ive done a lot of clubs that im not too into, but i realized i shine and will talk about and write about the thigns that have meant the most to me.
