Extracurriculars

Hey,

With rgards to extra-curriculars. Would admissions officers ever take into consideration that kids don’t have much extra-curriculars available to them?

I go to this city college and take 23 units. It has like no sports(even though it used to before funding was cut). But yeah below is a list of my extra-curriculars which I currently am taking and am deciding to keep as permanent:

ASO

Volunteering at Tutoring Center

Math Club

Science Club

Debate Club

AYSO

Hmmm… I might add hospital volunteering.

Bump............

What's AYSO?

soccer

why did the mexican dude bump???

Admissions officers do realize that all students do not have the same resources. Your list of EC's looks good - as long as you enjoy all of them, no need to change or add any. If you would prefer to volunteer at a hospital - maybe you are interested in medicine - that would be fine. The point is, don't do something because of what the colleges will think - do it because you like it. Not only will you enjoy your HS years more, but your essays and recommendations will ultimately be better if you are doing something that is meaningful to you, not just putting in time.

What grade are you in?

If there is something that you are really interested in, why not start a club or something about it? I love politics and debate, so I started a politics and debate club at my school. I'm sure admissions officers realize that some kids don't have the most opportunities, but if you take the initiative in something you really do like, it will look mmuucchh better than doing something you don't really like just to look good.
