Extremely Interested.

I'd join a group.

My number 2 is about 2000 words alone right now...

I just sent all my stuff.
good luck with you guys and me!

PM me to join the DS google group I just created. IIRC, a gmail account is necessary to join.

Ok, now back to my essays!

rejoyce Rejoyce; i just pulled my application! The numbers to beat are now 40/599 v the previously estimated 40/600-much more pleasant odds for the rest of you all (not that I was competition...)

Still, good luck everybody! Hope you all get into that freaky, freaky school!

BREAKING NEWS: There has been a resurgence of the bubonic plague at Deep Springs College! Apparently, asian rats carrying mutated streptomycin resistant strains of the disease have barricaded themselves in the student housing and, as of this moment, have killed off half the student body. Save yourselves from perdition and don't apply!

Correction: Anybody can join the group, gmail user or not.

If you want to join, then PM your email address. I'll invite you.

ReJoyce is right! The only way anyone has been able to survive has been to flee across the mountains without supplies. (They were all infected by the rats)

Applying is a bad idea!

And Jabberwock, didn't it say to write a concise essay?

jbyrnes: Yes, but I couldn't bear to cut out the really important parts of it. In the end I went over the 2500 word limit.

Did anyone else get to the post office at the last minute before closing?

I sent mine at the very last minute too. I had some trouble with the word limit too—wonder how strict they are about that?—but ended up with a total of just under 2,500.

Congrats to everyone who got it off in time.

applying next year! and if i dont get in i will take a year off to work in new zealand and try again? i wonder how DS will feel about that?

I'm planning on working in Quebec next year and reapplying.

we need another DS in hawaii or something. yea. anyone?

Howdy. I just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Gabe, and this is my second application to DS. Is everyone applying right out of high school, or not? Good luck to you all.

Wait, what 2500 word limit?

Woah!

I used the application that got sent to me in the packet of information. (I removed the staples.)

It didn't say anything about a 2500 word limit on there!

Yeah, the application form (PDF) off the DS website says that the combined word total for the three essays should not exceed 2,500 words.

I think they've changed some things on the stage one application since last year (it also says that there are only 3 additional essays in stage two). Maybe you got an old application. I'm sure they'll understand if that's the case.

How many additional essays are there in stage two?

I took a look at the application on the website.

I'm thinking the word limit probably won't be a problem.

But I see that they changed the wording in the new application. I guess they thought the old one wasn't clear enough to prospective students. My only guess is that they were getting essays that were answering the questions in ways they weren't anticipating.

There are apparently 3 additional essays after these. There used to be 4.

I'm so glad I finally got that app in last night. About 90 hours of my life in those pages. Good luck to everyone!

Hey Gabe, did you get to phase 2 last year?
If so, care to give us a schedule of what we do?

I don't feel like I have a very good chance of getting in. I mean, I would love to, but I just don't see it happening.

Hopefully something good comes out of all this though.

Deep Springs is a leap of faith, whether or not I get in is irrelevent. If you want, you can come WWOOFing in Montreal with me jbyrnes ;)
