Extremely low GPA, future opportunities?

Hi everyone,
To begin with, sorry if this is in the wrong topic/subtopic, while I have extensively read CC threads it is my first time actually posting and I'm not sure if it is in the right place.
Anyways, I am a Spanish student (as in... from Spain), currently in my second year of HS in the U.S. and due to my illness last year and my lack of effort this year my grades aren't very good. By this, I mean I am a sophomores getting Bs in Honors/AP classes (3.0GPA), who last year, due to the illness I mentioned before, finished with a 1.5 UW GPA. This has averaged to a current 2.0 UW and 2.6 W.
I am just worried as to what are my potential opportunities as a student with these grades. Intellectually, I have so much potential. I am an avid reader, fluent in three languages, highly informed in politics and philosophy, and with great critical thinking skills. (Not trying to brag, I have been told these things even by teachers who have given me Cs/Ds).
However, at this point in time is a lack of interest in school. It is not sheer laziness, as I clearly perform better in more advanced, and work-intensive classes, and come from a rigorous private school in Spain, it's just lack of motivation.
Anyways, I was wondering, if I decided to face my junior year and the end of this semester intensively going into what would be straight A grades, would I have a shot at universities such as UF, FSU, Vassar, etc.? Is there any chance that, if I get a good enough PSAT score (which I'm already preparing for), and got NMF status, a univessity such as OU would turn me down solely based on my low GPA?
Sorry for the long, unorganized question, I'm not a very good poster, I guess.
Thanks in advance!

Due to your low averages, there is minimal chance that you may get into schools who want high criteria from applicants. I know you say your illness prevented you from doing better, and you can certainly write about that, but your scores and your transcript will determine the rest. Good luck though!

Go to a community college and work your but off!
