ahh ok. so much analysis for one single freaking question. There is simply no way for me to even get a 12 on this test. Thanks for your help everyone.

Aren’t these questions supposed to be difficult? I got a 5 on the AP Physics B exam and high 700s on the Physics and Math II SAT STs and I really doubt I can get them all right.

You say these aren’t difficult yet you doubt you can get all of them right?

I was asking the OP if these questions were made to be difficult, since they seem to be specifically designed for a physics contest. I did not mean to say they are easy.

I think it goes Physics B → Subject Test → F=ma exam

From least to most difficult

I am aware of that. The AP Physics exam and the subject tests are more of a measure to see if you know the material, while the F=ma exam and other physics contests are more of a challenge between people who already mastered the material.

it makes me mad that my teacher informs me less than a week ahead of time that she has enrolled me for this thing. I actualy want to do good but have no time to prepare. I’m one of the best students in the class (as far as grades go) but i struggle epicly on this. perhaps god will shine down on me on that day and i can get a perfect score. And maybe i can fly.

Just be glad you have this opportunity. My current high school has no math competitions, no robotics clubs, we just have an underfunded Science Olympiad.

You’re right. I believe Physics c students can also take this test. This means i have 2 years to prepare for this. By senior year i will kick this test’s butt.

integrate the area under the curve. lol physics c

And what does the area under the curve tell you on a position vs time graph? Lets take a moment to think about this.

have my physics midterm tomorrow and i feel so inadequately prepared. I did as many problems as i can.
Just a side question, are you guys the logical type of physics people or abstract. Like do you like mechanics vs stuff like fluids.
I just can’t get my self to understand Bernouli’s principle but can master all of mechanics.

I love mechanics. Fluids kicked my butt. I can complete the problems, but it takes me longer and I don’t enjoy them. It sucks with thermo as well because I’m a chemistry gal and its a bit difficult to stop the “Chemsitry” way and think of it in terms of physics.

Does anyone think the Semis are a little too easy? I recently tried a few problems from the 2012 exam. A2, A4, and M1 fell like dominoes, and the only “difficult” problem from reading was A3.

Mind my ignorance but what the heck is a semi and what are these letters and numbers which you refer to.

The USAPhO semifinal exam is taken by the top 300 scprers on the f=ma exam. It is used to select the US physics team, and consists of six problems - 4 on the A section and two on the B section. The B section problems are supposedly harder.
