F1 visa question

I was wondering how long it takes to process an i20 to f1 visa. Apparently my application has been lost so I'll have to compile a new one (I'm planning on attending a CC so deadline isn't something 'm worried about). My only concern is that there would not be enough time left over for me to apply/receive the F1 visa prior to the start of the semester (Fall 05).

Can anyone here at CC whose been through the process already give me a brief outline of the steps/time required?

Thanks in advance!

this is from local US embassy web site"

" Passports, completed applications (including full answers to all questions) and supporting documents should be left in the drop box at the front of the U.S. Embassy between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All documents should be placed in a clear plastic folder. Please do not submit fees through the drop box. All fees are paid in the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy on the day of the interview.

Please note: Applications downloaded, filled out and printed off http://evisaforms.state.gov will speed up the visa application process.

The Consular Section will process applications and contact applicants within three to ten business days with an interview time. Interviews take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm.

On the date of their interview, applicants should arrive five minutes in advance of their scheduled interview time. Most qualified applicants will receive their visas on the next workday following their appointment."
hope it helps

Depends on country... in India they say 30 days... sometimes longer. Check with your local embassy.

Well I'll be applying from Hong Kong. We don't have an embassy here, more like a consulate but similar I guess. Thanks for the info meder. I guess it should only take 1-2 weeks if I have all the paperwork and everything down correctly right?

Anyone else wanna share their experience?

studying in the US on F1 now; if I remember correctly it took about a week for Singapore to give me mine...

RATM im not too sure... a fd of mine applied and was rejected twice for some unknown reasons but she's jus like any other kids really, and it took her more than 2 months to get the visa. but i guess it wont be too difficult unless you do anything real stupid
