FA Awards with Packets...

Just curious...
did anyone else use the JHU financial aid calculator before applying ED? If yes... how close was your number to what you were given... because it was WAY off for me, and i'm just wondering about everyone else.

How off was it for you? Did they give you more or was it less? For me, it was maybe $1000 less. Pretty close, I'd say. Good enough.

wow! you guys got your packets already?! what states do you live in?

^i haven't gotten mine yet :[ i live in tx.

did any of you guys check http://www.jhu.edu/finaid/self_service.html for the amount of aid yet? It has numbers posted. I'm just waiting on the packet before i accept anything. Also, i am curious about something: the more merit based scholarships like the Hodson Trust Scholarship, were they awarded yet? Because if not i have a little theory on who will be awarded with the Hodson Trust Scholarship.....

^i just went there now. i dont know if what i got is a lot though compared to others. i'm just goign to wait on my packet too before i do anything.

I live in VA, about 75 minutes away from Hopkins, so that's probably why I got the packet so fast.

How do you apply for the Hodson Trust Scholarship?

Everyone is considered for the Hodson trust Scholarship, although i think they won't make decisions on that until they havbe all decisions done in April. The JHU Ugrad admissons website state that all people awarded the Hodson Trust scholarships are notified in April with their acceptance packet.

Man, tuition this year is expensive. My parents said it was an 8% increase from last year or something. That percent may not be just tuition though, it may be the whole estimated cost per year.

7.2 percent and its just tuition.

err...what's Direct Loan Master Promissory Note? is that how much aid you get? what if there are no numbers...?

are my eyes deceiving me, or is it really $48,118 to go to jhu next year?!?!?!?

AHHH this sucks...wasn't it around 43 grand last year?

Tuition at Hopkins has increased for next year. Current students were just notified yesterday that "the trustees this month approved undergraduate tuition for the 2006-2007 academic year of $33,900. That represents an increase of $2,280, or 7.2 percent, from the current $31,620." (quoting from an email from President Brody)

As for scholarships, as far as I know (and I may be wrong), about 60-ish Hodson Trust Scholars and 15 Westgate scholarship finalists are notified of their status when RD admissions decisions are sent out. (Westgate is the engineering scholarship.) Hopkins holds a little reception on campus for Hodson Scholars right before one of the open houses and they also pays for Westgate finalists to visit campus and interview to decide who will receive the 2 Westgate scholarships (all Westgate finalists are guaranteed to receive the Hodson scholarship if they aren't chosen for the Westgate)
