FA for Andover?$$$$!

I have a college account thats alot more than a 10k but I can’t get into it ever- I’ve asked. Don’t you dare stereotype me as some pretensous brat- I’ve done nothing to make you think I’m unappreciative. You don’t know me and you don’t know what my life is like.

Also I work. Don’t you feel dumb?

@CBatch- Seriously? I KNOW HOW LUCKY I AM! I have said that before If you bothered to look back at previous post. I understand there are people who need more FA than I do all I was asking was if there was any way that if I got in I could apply for more than that. You need to stop judging.

I did get in a top boarding school  so no worries. Don’t apply to Andover/Exeter/other top boarding schools, so you’ll never get to see me or people like me. You can’t afford it anyway. This thread is all about your one question. Most people came in here already gave you an answer - it’s very unlikely that you’ll get the amount FA that you need, some think you won’t get any FA.
You got what you were looking for, so better get out of here and let this thread die. Otherwise, more and more people will jump in and be more sarcastic :)

They can kick you out if you ruin their rep. just letting you know:)

They just love me more for saying these. Don’t you realize you have no supporter and everyone speaks against you here? Either CC and boarding school kids are all evil, or you did something wrong since the beginning

ok, alo…
no malice intended, but…

it’s unlikely you’ll get FA. that’s basically what everyone’s been trying to tell you.

and this IS the internet, there will be judging, maybe even name-calling. you need to learn to develop a thick skin. i’m sure no one meant to purposely be malicious, but learn not to take things so seriously; at the end of the day, it’s ONE person’s opinion and yours matters the most, right ?

if you make 200-300k for a family of 4, it’s doubtful you’ll get FA. and as you said, if andover’s truly only a “little better school” and you’re not willing to make major lifestyle adjustments, you should just stay where you are. save 160k on your parents behalf, and give the FA money to a kid who’s, well, a bit more needy.

besides, that’s just my opinion. you don’t have to listen, no one’s stopping you from applying. at this point, i think you should be worrying more about getting in than getting FA (you can always appeal it). andover is, as you already know, insanely selective, so i wouldn’t lose any sleep over financial aid at this point…

GOOD LUCK!

thanks. No offense taken. I know I need a thicker skin but it still hurts when people call you crazy etc online when your already upset at someones mean comment. I asked my parents and they said they need to focus on paying off debts first ( depression took alot out of us) then they’d see…

@boardingschool- Why is this your buisness? You join in meanly in an arguement for no good reason. Also I still think its funny I’ve asked you to show me where I said that i was entitled to FA at least 3 times & you still haven’t replied back on that.

You came here and asked for advice, you should thank everyone for joining. You “asked 3 times” and been waiting for my answer, so I know you’re dying to see me here.
You can’t afford a top boarding school and won’t get enough FA, so better focus on your current school and your dog. Have fun studying.

im not dying to see you here I’m trying to prove my point which I just did since you still didn’t answer. Next time you accuse people of saying things have proof to back it up.

ask 3 more times, maybe I’ll answer
actually you better focus on your current school and your dog. Have fun studying.

obviously you can’t prove it so keep on talking your making yourself seem worse.

You are correct that $300,000.00 is not a lot of money but the financial aid award you’re likely to receive is more than fair. It’s a question of where your Families priorities fall and if you guys are willing to cut out some things out to make it possible to afford B School and the great opportunities you’ll have by attending one. Also, if you have a compelling application and the school really wants you, they may add another $5,000.00 to your total package. Many kids look at your families income and are immediately aghast at your comments as $250-300,000.00 is truly the new middle class and not a sign of real wealth in this Country. There are people who make that in the first 5 minutes after the opening bell on Wall Street. Do not be discouraged by some of these mean spirited posts and keep your dream alive of attending B School. However, there has to be some sacrifice because your families income dictate that $15-20 thousand contribution is more than fair. There are schools that will also give you little to nothing because they will say tuition can be afforded if your family cut out some luxuries that you may have or lifestyle choices your family has made whether true or not. Good luck and hope it all works out for you and your family.

In 2007, median annual household income was $50,233 according to the US Census Bureau. That means that half the households in the US live with incomes no higher than $50,233. It is likely that at least that half of the US population sees $250K-$300K as far above middlle class. Even in one of the more affluent states, Massachusetts, the median household income for 2008 was $65,304. The US Census 2007 data aslo indicates that only 1.93% of households had incomes exceeding $250,000. In addition, only the upper 20% of families had household incomes exceeding $91,705.

Suggesting that $250K-$300K is the new middle class really does seem wholly inconsistent with all the realities of family incomes in the US.

Well since you stated earlier that “I scored exceeding average on ISATs in math …” I would recommend that you study before taking the SSAT. Illinois has very low expectations for 8th grade math students.

The reality is the income ascribed to "median ’ is poverty wages in America factoring in inflation and the overall cost of living. On the East & West Coast it is even more pronounced as low income. Statistics don’t tell the whole story and ask people whose households are $50,000.00 if they live the traditional idea of a “middle class” life. A Family of four making $50,000.00 per year is poor. Unfortunately this is where we are in this Country. I’ll concede and define $250,000.00 as Upper Middle class, but far from wealthy.

I don’t fully know the situation, but based on my experience (and my brother’s) with Andover, you’re unlikely to get the value Exeter suggests from Andover. Exeter has better aid than Andover, I believe (they both meet full need, but what each defines as full need is different). Andover might bump up their aid if they really want you, though, particularly if another school offered you more aid.

Mainer95 did take into account that fact - in Massachusetts, the median household income for 2008 was $65,304 “only”. A good part of the population works at minimum wage or low income (in other words, 50% of households in Massachusetts makes less than 65k). Saying that the inclusion of these people screws up the numbers is like refusing their existence in this country and sounds even more detached from reality.

i think $250,000 is pushing it for exeter, but not andover
