FA for Andover?$$$$!

Why did you say “i never said you would never get in”? I never said you said that. Also I’ve been saying needlessly rude so you might want to re-read comments and get yourself a dictionary- I know the difference between rude and blunt like most people do. BTW IMHO: I never had an attitude with your advice until you responded meanly to me asking why would i not apply for FA when I can’t go without it. When I say thank you Its my way of showing you I appreciate your comment and that I was listening to it. I doubt I’ll consider taking advice from someone who says legit. :P

alo get over yourself.

also considering you spelled noob like n00b I doubt your all that intellegent. :)

candidate- considering I do a christian food pantry every week, work at the no kill animal shelter 5 days a week and did a bike-a-thon where your paid for every mile and it goes to charities I doubt I’m " stuck on myself". You on the other hand…

oh and I do events for the American cancer society several times a year and have been doing all these things for several years.

With regard to financial aid and school applications, here’s some thoughts in general. (They are based on our family’s 6 years of FA for an independent day school.)

It is important to apply for FA if you will need it to attend. Some schools are need-blind; some aren’t, but if you need it, you need to be HONEST.

Apply early and be prepared (your parents, really) to do the SSS as soon as possible.

Don’t expect that if you get no FA for entry, that you can then get FA in later years – barring unforeseen circumstances and/or an FA student leaving, no add’l FA for your class year will be available. Back to that be HONEST thing.

Most, but not all schools, use the (annoying) SSS to gather info. The SSS also gives a recommendation BUT not all schools pay attention to that recommendation. F/ex, our ‘recommended amount’ per the SSS was under 5k, but our school asked us for more than double that amount. If the school doesn’t use the SSS, see what they do use and how you/your parents feel about it.

Check the school web site for % of students on FA and avg FA award. If it doesn’t say, email admissions to ask. The higher the % and the higher the avg award, the better your chances are. Some schools give a number of smaller aid awards to encourage the middle class, some not so much. Your admission officer will tell you and there is no shame in asking.

Usually if you are middle class, whatever that means here the good ol’ USA these days, you will probably not get as much aid as you’d like/hope for. No full ride. Let me be honest: the big awards are generally not ‘full rides,’ but really low fees and are for poor (really poor), smart &/or athletic, parents didn’t go to college, diverse folks, usu with private day or v. good public school experience.

Seems like folks should expect to pay anywhere from $17k - $25k even with FA. If you or your family can’t/won’t do even the bottom end of that, it might be good to re-think the prep school thing if your parents aren’t as motivated (e.g., ready to pay at least 17 - 20k) and you are ‘middle class.’

Some schools will want to offer you loans AND aid and maybe even want you, the student to take a job (!!!) so read all of the FA fine print carefully. Our family will NOT take a loan for school as part of an FA package; we’ll either get a package that works for us and scrimp, or just not attend. So we aren’t looking at schools that are pretty clear that that is part of the package.

Once you are an enrolled student, IF you are an asset to your school, it is possible to counter-offer your FA amount if it radically goes down, but you’d better have a good reason, AND you need to be polite and be realistic.

You get no extra $ if you have a single parent. Bummer, but true. It is all about the income & assets and what you spend it on…

alo incase u havent read anything on cc u are truly nothing special, or atleast you are acting like you should be treated special. so stop because everyone on cc doesnt care!

thank you fizzy izzy. I appreciate the time it took to write that:)

candidate- if everyone on cc doesn’t care why do you? also i never acted like i should be treated special. I just don’t like being treated rudly like you are treating me. I’m done with you so post your nasty comments. whatever.

rawrrr :)…
