So my parents are divorced, and I live with my mom. Her income is around 40K. We do get aid from my dad (16K per year) as it is required by the law. He makes about 60K I think. I rarely see him, he visits like twice a year. So when I apply for FA at colleges, do I have to submit under my mom only, my mom plus my dad's financial aid, or my mom and dad combined?

When you fill out Fafsa, you will use your mom’s info, since you live with her. The information will include the money she gets from your father. If you apply to any colleges that require the Profile, then you will have to include your father’s information and income as the non-custodial parent.

For Profile schools, your dad will have to complete the non-custodial parent Profile IF the school requires it. Some Profile schools require this non-custodial form and others do not.

You will also need to check the colleges as some also have their own financial aid form that requests information about non-custodial parent income and assets.

For FAFSA only schools, you will use only your mom’s information. All child support and spousal support will need to be included on the FAFSA, as well as your mom’s income.

Ok thank you guys very much, that helped a lot.
