FA for U Hartford

And I have a car and everything that’s fine. I just don’t wanna get stuck in debt so far down that getting to med school would be done for

@thisizmyyear2016

Are you going to the art school at UHart? If so…it is terrific.

@BrownParent wait so i talked to the guy and he told me its $19k for me per year included the stuff… Are they seriously telling me that my family only needs to pay $11k per year but in actual its 31k? Ugh these dumb people. I’ll call the guy again I’m so confused.
@mommdc yeah I’m still waiting for UB because it’s cheaper and all but it will be $20k per year for me even though I’m in state with the fees and everything. They are waiting on the original people who they accepted before accepting the rest who are not wait listed but not rejected either. It sucks because communication is awful

I really don’t wanna pay so much because even with the 20k my dad wants to take a loan to pay it all anyway even though I’m not low income but not rich either. One reason why I hate being middle class.
Plus I’m first generation to go to college too so yeah.

I am wait listed for Binghamton and stony brook but UB is my first choice. And UB hasn’t told me anything.
Next is st Leo in Florida that I’m accepted into and want to go to but idk the price yet for me. Tampa I got into for the spring term and I don’t want the hassle of transferring. Then Hartford. It’s 6h away from me which is why my parents are okay Connecticut is your backup plan! I also applied to canisius college but they don’t have a good medical focused course like UB and my dad is against the college compared to university feel. It’s expensive too even though I got money ($44k for 4 yrs).
This is why I’m stressing and complaining on here so if I’m annoying I apologize but I just wanna get accepted and not stress because grades and ap exams are enough to deal with.

Yes, that is what it looks like, read over the numbers.You see COA is 53208. Subtract the 22,000 Grant money (UH Alumni award 17000 + UH university grant 5000) and you are left with a Net Cost of 31.208. Now you can pay 5,500 by your student loan and that leaves 25,708. There are no other grants or awards listed. So if they think your family contribution is only 11,683 then that leaves 25,708 - 11,683 = 14,025 which is not covered at all that I can see. Where is this coming from?. So the real cost to your family is

5,500 student loan
11,683 family contribution

14,025 gap = no grant scholarship or loan given (presumably they think your parent should borrow it)

31,208 Net Cost

So your list now, just to keep it organized, as I’m having trouble tracking:

U of Hartford - accepted but looks to be unaffordable
St. Leo, Florida - accepted but no aid letter yet
Buffalo - waiting for accept/deny/WL
Binghamton - waitlisted
Stoney Brook - waitlisted
Canisius College -accepted, what is the cost?
Connecticut - ?
Tampa - accepted for Spring, what is the cost?

NOTE: when you are accepted for Spring you are not a transfer and are not taking any classes first. You are entering freshman starting in the Spring. Nothing wrong with that if it is affordable. You can work or do an internship or volunteer in the fall.

Once more…your net cost for ONE year is over $31,000. That is what you will have to pay yourselves To attend University of Hartford.

Sounds unaffordable to me.

@BrownParent @thumper1
No I didn’t apply to uconn
For Tampa I’m wait listed for fall but accepted to spring so I mean I don’t wanna waste a semester and start later and it will for me personally be harder to fit in. I don’t know the aid for it as I didn’t receive any letter, but it’s cost is $37,936 with room and board and other fees. It’s beautiful but again I wouldn’t know until after May 1st if I’m in for fall term so same situation almost as UB.
Canisius is for me with the $44k for four years scholarship is around $26-27k maybe can’t remember. I know regular is above $32k per year. But canisius is out anyway cuz it’s not focused on medical, only pa program so it will send me to some other school anyway.

*I’m accepted for Tampa spring 2017

How will you pay for Tampa?

Look, sure you may have preferences for different schools but don’t make it on false premises. It doesn’t make any sense to say a college will prepare someone for PA but not MD, that is nonsense as the preparation is the same. You will take any major you want and do the 7 or so premed classes. The college doesn’t ‘send you’ anywhere. If you are applying to med school you take charge to choose where to apply and it is hard to get in so you will apply many places. You will need letters of recommendation from science profs who know you well. Your acceptances to various med schools will depend on you having a super high gpa, great MCAT scores and volunteer and clinical work and possibly research. Here is support page for pre med there.

You will not have any problem fitting into a college as a spring admit unless you decide you aren’t so to talk to anyone. This isn’t high school anymore. Everyone has adjustment to make freshman year so it really doesn’t matter. There is always an awkward phase for many. Once that is over it doesn’t matter if the school is desirable and affordable is what really matters.

Call the schools where you are accepted but don’t have a package asap.

No it’s not great for medical. It’s mostly for other majors I’m a bio major. Trust me I live 10 mins from it. Lol.

And it’s expensive. As hell. So nope.

It’s not like popularity wise I won’t. I couldn’t care less. I meant at dorm and with teachers I wanna create a good relationship and it’s just less of a dam hassle without transferring

@thisizmyyear2016

I’m confused. It sounded like you wanted to know about UHart. Now it sounds like you know it all…so what exactly are you asking here?

@thisizmyyear2016

What are your stats (uwGPA, SAT/ACT scores)?

@Jamrock411 3.9 gpa and 32 act and high sat
I got into UB for spring 2017 guys. I’m not sure how to break it to my parents right now… What if they r mad? That I didn’t get into fall?

Hard to believe you weren’t accepted for fall semester unless some info was late for your application.

@thisizmyyear2016

Did you send your applications in late to UB?

No I did it in November 15. It was bumped to regular decision in january
