Hey everyone. So I got accepted a few months ago with $68,000 for four years scholarship. It’s out of state for me as u live in new york.
Can anyone tell me how the school is, campus, social life, dorms and food…? I’m going for premed. Specifically a bio major.
I heard the school isn’t that great and isn’t safe for dorm so any info would be great!
Reply below also if you have gotten admitted. If u go here, would love to know ssomeone I know atleast!
I lived and worked in Hartford for 8 years. Just be sure to do your research. $68k over 4 years isn’t much. Remember that university of Hartford has literally no full pay students. No one would pay full to go there so they are forced to give “scholarships” to everyone.
Its not in a great area, it’s one of the few schools rated a D+ (lowest possible rating) for financial strength by Forbes, because they have very little money and resources. You see that everywhere from the bad dorms to the low pay for teachers and a lot of adjunct teachers. Also keep in mind that around 15% of the students are “remedial” college students.
It’s just one of those low stat regional schools that basically anyone can get into, and only around 50% graduate from. Not to give it an unduly harsh review - it’s fine for some people. Just do your due diligence to know what you are getting. (There’s a lot of data on their webpage).
University of Hartford also has one of the lowest yield rates in the country. 86%+ of those that get in choose to go somewhere else. So it’s a “deep safety” or “last resort” school for most.

thank you. i’ve decided to stay in state for now
@8bagels - We were planning a trip over spring break April 2017 to see U of Hartford for DS who is in 11th grade. He fits the description of remedial student. We pray he can get at least a 25 on his first ACT in December. He is B- / C+ student, college prep classes but no AP or honors classes. I am concerned now about what you wrote about the overall school - most students are looking to transfer and the campus, campus life and teaching staff are very poor? Can you elaborate ?
My dd is a freshman at university of hartford and is very happy! I would not be so quick to believe all the reviews you read nor judge solely on “stats”. My daughter was an A student in high school and did not choose this school as a “last resort” by any means. Finishing up her first semester, I can say first-hand that this is a first class university with first class professors who are very accessible to the students and always willing to help. One of the best parts of it is that none of her courses have more than 25 students and some with only 10. The people she knows are all serious about their studies and good students. There are many campus organizations/clubs and always something to do on campus. Many campus sponsored events and activities at night and on the weekends. The area around the university is not “bad” as many say and you probably arent walking anywhere anyway as it is a true “campus”. The campus is very safe and she is comfortable walking around by herself at all times even at night. Most of the surrounding area is middle-upper class residential with plenty to do a short 5-10 minute car or bus ride away in west hartford.
The current president of the university is retiring after 20 years and the one they just hired has a very impressive record and resume. I definately would not write off this school. It is a fabulous university.
