Facebook - have never had, don't really want, but is it worth it to see school info for parent?

depends on the school and really depends on who runs parent Facebook page and how active that page is. Which school? One of us may know

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science

No, at least not for me. Both of my kid’s colleges had parent info pages on their websites. We also got the parent newsletter via email from both of my kid’s schools. Both colleges had parent groups on Facebook, but we never felt the need to sign up. D looked at her college’s parent Facebook group out of curiosity and she said it was mostly parents complaining…or just a repeat of what was on the parent info page on the website or in the newsletter.

I think the parent FB group is invaluable at my D’s chosen school. There is tons of good info there, that is nowhere to be found on the college website. Also you can get a vibe–I feel better about my D’s choice, 2300 miles away, because I see how much the parents love the school.

I ended up leaving the parents FB group at d20’s school because it was a combination of complaints and ridiculous helicopter parenting, and the useful info could be found elsewhere. Also, once my D was actually matriculated and attending, she didn’t need or want me hovering.

They can be great for info from local and experienced parents; they can also be a rabbit hole of complaints. Avoid the rabbit holes, and you’ll be fine.

I was in the same boat when my oldest was a freshman and I bit the bullet and joined. I’m really glad I did, as the info I have gotten has been invaluable. I did not use my full name or put any identifiable info in like schools I went to, etc. because I didn’t want people “friending” me. I used my fist name and then my middle and last name initials as a surname.

She is very accurate and funny. I wonder how many 18 year olds are living their life not knowing mom is on Facebook sharing their hobbies and personality anc trying to find them a roommate.
