Facebook Roomie

So I know a lot of people find their roommates through Facebook and I really like that idea except what am I supposed to include in my post for the Facebook group? I have no idea what to say and how much is too much information? If any seniors have already posted and don’t mind posting it here as an example that’d be great. Thanks!

A little paragraph bio about yourself is always nice to have. Include whatever is important to you wether thats interests, your major, where you’re from, what you do, or a few/all of those.

Make sure to mention any must have’s or tendencies you would have that would affect roommate choice. (night owl, hygienic or neat, drugs or no drugs (be careful how you phrase this if this is a university sponsored group), etc. This probably is good to be about a small paragraph as well.

If you get dorm choices at your college and have preferences, mention that.

Be a bit more vague in your post and see who messages you. Once/If people message you, then is where you should be more gritty. Facebook roomies can work out but random ones can work out well too. If you don’t find a good fit on Facebook, don’t force it and go with a random assignment instead.

I wouldn’t mention night owl, hygienic or neat, drugs or no drugs right away. On my college’s FB group, it’s usually this:

Hi, my name is XX. I’m from XX, which is near XX. I’m majoring in XX, and plan to live in XX [this is only important if the dorm vary greatly and is significant in finding a roommate.] I’m also interested in/involved in/listen to/watch/am a fan of XXXX. I’m looking for a roommate that’s up for partying/rushing a sorority/will watch Netflix with me/is as organized as I am/wants to go to the same church/is majoring in something similar/plans to go to all of the football games/XXX.

I think you can definitely work sleeping schedules into your original post. It’s important–that’s been the source of many of my minor conflicts so far freshman year.

“Looking for another night owl who likes football…”

Thank you this has all been really helpful!
