Potential Roommates on Facebook

When a potential roommate adds you on Facebook (after being listed as a match through the school's roommate finder) what should I say? They basically added me but didn't message or anything and I want to initiate some conversation but am not sure what to say first.

Just be like hey, I saw we’re both going to X University next year! Are you still looking for a roommate?

It’s kinda awkward at first but they’re in the same position as you.

Hey yall!!! I go to A&M and my roommate and I are looking for 2 roommates!! Just let me know if yall know anyone or are interested!

Just be friendly and initiate conversation.

You’re going to end up knowing her anyways; why not get a head start on building a possible friendship?

I’m a guy. And it’s not an assigned roommate, it’s just one of the “matches” based on our answers to the questionnaire, so we may not necessarily end up knowing each other.

Oops, sorry for my mistaken assumption on your gender.

Even if that’s the case, it’s still a great way to make one more potential friend. Get out there and meet people.

^Agreed with excelblue. Even if you don’t end up rooming with this guy, you may make a friend in him. It’s always nice to know someone before you get there.

totally fine to do it. Just like, talk to them. I know it’s strange but they’ll appreciate you taking the first move and just like… talk about life. My roommate and I met on FB in our admitted student’s group because we liked/were interested in all of the same things. We’re best friends and it’s worked out really well for us.
