Facebook roommate

So i know most people find their roommates on facebook and that’s what i want to do instead of just going random, but i don’t have a facebook. So would it be weird if i created a facebook because i wouldn’t have any friends. I could add an album of pictures but it would still be a pretty empty profile.

Not all schools do it this way. My kids’ schools had surveys and then assigned the students. But assuming you know the school you are going to does it this way I’ll answer your question.

I think it’s okay to make a FB page for this purpose. If you are worried what someone might think, you can casually mention in your conversation that you don’t usually use FB but created one because you knew you needed it to meet potential roommates. You may find it useful in the long run to have FB account. Neither of my kids us FB to post much of anything, but they use it a lot for messaging (for some reason it seems to be preferred to texting). Also, a lot of clubs and organizations use create FB events to publicize events.

@ClaremontMom Thank you!

My daughter didn’t make a Facebook until she was in the same situation. I don’t think she uses it much except for messaging with roommates funny enough. She did use the school matching system for the potentials, but then checked them out via Facebook. She is still roommates with the first match (sophomore now) and they plan to room together again Junior year. Though no longer rooming with the other two in her Freshman room.

My school uses a matching survey to find out who you would be paired with! Still use it for finding the potential roommate and you can still check them through Facebook! I think it is a good idea only use FB when totally necessary!!

Most students at my school go random, but there are a few that use facebook. No I don’t think that would be weird at all. You can say you primarily made a facebook for college or to find a roommate. You are fine really.
