fact or myth about top 5 students in every FX county HS

.....are you kidding?
sure, most families may be like that...but when you talk about great falls, remember that the average price of a home in GF is in the millions, and that extends outward into oakton, vienna, and fox mill...even the town i'm in has million dollar homes....reston? condos sell for millions...alexandria/arlington/georgetown/pentagon row, all million dollar areas unless you live in the poor section of town, and even those sections arn't cheap...the reason people drive those hondas and such is because they splurge elsewhere, and there are PLENTY of BMWs and Mercedes going around...
NoVa is wealthy, overall...its a fact of life

Any city the size of DC has its wealthy suburbs, its middle class suburbs, its lower class suburbs etc. etc. This isn't a big deal.

as I said... fairfax county is a big place. It has over 1 million people. And it's one of the richest counties in the country.

Not the richest zipcodes, but county as a whole. All that "Orange County" business on tv? Average households in fairfax make more than those in Orange County, CA. Fairfax is not home to huge movie stars and the like, just a lot of families where both parents (or one parent) work and make good money.

Facts:
54.4% of Fairfax County households make OVER $75,000.
37.5% of Fairfax County households make OVER $100,00.

Median Household Income $81,050

COMPARED WITH:

26.5% of Virginia households make OVER $75,000.
15.1% of Virginia households make OVER $100,000.

Median Household Income: $46,667

OK well I geuss this should settle part of the dispute. These are facts attained from the national census website. Obviously, Fairfax is far wealthier than the average in Virginia. As far as the correlation between wealth and education, it depends on which side of the tracks you are looking from...

I didn't have time to compare social components (which includes stats about education) but here are the two links from the census bureau:

VIRGINIA:<a href="http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/QTTable?_bm=n&_lang=en&qr_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U_DP2&ds_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U&geo_id=04000US51%5B/url%5D">http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/QTTable?_bm=n&_lang=en&qr_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U_DP2&ds_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U&geo_id=04000US51</a></p>

FAIRFAX:<a href="http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/QTTable?_bm=y&-qr_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U_DP2&-ds_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U&-_lang=en&-_sse=on&-geo_id=05000US51059%5B/url%5D">http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/QTTable?_bm=y&-qr_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U_DP2&-ds_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U&-_lang=en&-_sse=on&-geo_id=05000US51059</a></p>

more money in general in a specific area brings more resources...just because family A only makes $90K/year, and family B makes $190K/year, does not mean that only family B will have resources for a better education...since family B-types exist, in high numbers, in FFX county, family A-types will reap the benifits from family-B taxes, which provides better educations overall

haha even a family making 90,000/year is a lot. And thats about close to the average in Fairfax County.

i know that my family may fit into the typical FX co. steryotype, but most of the kids at my school are lower-middle class. Fx co. on a whole is rich, but it also has its sections (and schools) that are pretty average.

I'm from a fairfax county school and we had at least 8 people go to UVA last year. And it's not TJ...

yeah, my school had 6 goes to UVA

My D's FCPS class had 10 each to W&M and UVA.

Why is that relevant?

cav is right, it shouldnt matter...it could be dumb luck that a bunch applied because if one smart kid applies, his friends could want to apply and generally they'll be at their friend's caliber so they all could get in,..

Actually it is relevant........NOT!!!!!!

At least 10 people got in ED to UVA in my fcps school. Also a good number got into ED W&M as well.

UVa doesn't take rushed scores. To be frank, if you wait to send them until after you see the results, they might not arrive in time.
