Hi everyone, I finished my freshman year at a private university in NC in May, and just found out yesterday I cannot go back this fall due to finances. I am returning to my home state of NJ, and spent last night applying to state schools. However, my financial aid for the private school I went to has already been processed, and I plan on calling tomorrow to let them know I cannot return since I can't call today on the 4th of July. My question is: is it possible for my FAFSA to be processed again at whichever school I decide to transfer into this late in the game? It sucks I had to find out in July and now I'm worried I'll be denied the aid I need.

Thanks for any help, guys!

how much aid do you need?

How much will your parents pay for? I see that last year they paid for your tuition, room, and board at a private…and now maybe they can’t afford to pay that much? How much will they pay this year?

What is your EFC?

You’re in NJ, right?

State school often don’t have much aid to give…usually just federal aid and (if offered) state aid.

As for FAFSA, I think you just go in and add your new schools.

I am in state for NJ, and I am aware state schools don’t offer much aid. My EFC is about $1500, so I received a significant amount of aid from fafsa for Fall 2012/spring 2013. My parents can pay around $7,000-$10,000 each year. Thanks for your help, I guess I’ll just call my old school tomorrow and ask them if there’s anything else I need to do besides change schools on fafsa.
