Hello! Can anyone tell me what is FAFSA?Does it give scholarships? Also, I got in Illinois Institute of Technology with Henry T. Heald Scholarship: $17,500 per year. I’m assuming that this scholarship was based on academics achievements, So is there any need-based scholarships?Or only merit? I’m soooo confused!
Also do you know any good outside scholarships/grants? Can be for Russian students or art based =)
You are an international, student. You can’t complete the FAFSA. That is only for U.S. citizens and folks with permanent resident status,
You are an international student, right? If so, you cannot complete, the FAFSA. It is a financial aid application form which is used primarily to determine federally funded need based aid for applicants. You are not eligible for federally funded need based aid unless you are a u.s. citizen or permanent resident.
But regardless…the FAFSA is a financial aid application form…it doesn’t give money.
no, I have a Green Card and I am a permanent resident, so I can
sorry, I did not mention that I have a green card
You file FAFSA for your Federal Aid and IIT financial aid. See https://fafsa.ed.gov/ & http://web.iit.edu/financial-aid/applying-financial-aid.
Congratulation on the scholarship!
FAFSA is an application for fed aid. Fed grants (which are SMALL) are for low income families. Is your family low income?
You can fill out FAFSA and if you don’t qualify for a small fed grant, you’ll still be able to take out a $5,500 loan.
In another thread, you ask if you can get more scholarship money if you “do well” at this school. Rarely do schools give much/any add’l money for getting very good grades. Occasionally, a dept might award a one time small prize.
Whatever funding you get as an incoming frosh, will likely be the max awarded. So, make decisions based on that info.
Ask your parents how much they’ll pay each year for college
Ok…so you can file a FAFSA. Really the FAFSA is only used to determine your eligibility for federally funded need based aid. So by completing the FAFSA, you will be able to take a $5500 Direct Loan in your name only.
The only other things would be a Pell Grant or SEOG (some schools offer this and others don’t), and possibly work study.
The Pell and SEOG are for low income families. Is your family income low?
Moved to the Financial Aid forum and merged the two threads
