I submitted my FAFSA on time, but need to make a correction, which I’m not sure I can do. It’s a long story, but I applied to 2nd bach Computer Science programs at UC Irvine and UC Davis, as well as Masters in Computer Science programs at CSUN and CSULA.
After you add up all your schools, it asks you whether you will be 3rd year/junior, 4th year senior, 1st year graduate/professional, etc. There is not an option for both, which is what my situation is. Wondering if anyone knows if there’s a solution to this.
And if you are not independent due to age, you will most likely be dependent for your 2nd bachelors FAFSA. In that case, you’ll need to add parent info.
Be sure to remove the grad schools from the FAFSA when you do the undergrad, or vice versa. The aid will probably be computer-packaged, and it will be a mess if you include the wrong schools.
I thought there was a question about whether you’d already have a bach degree before starting the school year this application (FAFSA 2015-16) was for? Doesn’t the fact you already have one BA make you independent for FAFSA, no matter what age you are?
Having a first bachelors does not make you independent if you are seeking a second bachelors, I believe. But I’m not sure what need based aid is available for a second bachelors beyond the Direct Loan money.
And being independent for a masters doesn’t necessarily mean more financial aid money will be thrown your way. All masters students are independent.
I thought the FAFSA information was only for the first bachelor’s degree and that the second bachelor’s is on the OP’s dime. If the OP is applying for MS, then he/she may be eligible for loans.
Federal Stafford student loans are available for second bachelor’s degrees, but the lifetime limit is based on your total time as an undergraduate. A master’s degree student would start over with federal Stafford student loan lifetime limits.
I’m confused about the following sentence: “A master’s degree student would start over with federal Stafford student loan lifetime limits.”
I already have both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and interested in pursuing a second Bachelor’s degree. Does this mean that because I already have a Master’s degree that the federal Stafford student loan lifetime limit “starts over”? Meaning, I can borrow the full (annual/lifetime) amount, again, for the 2nd bachelor’s degree?
