I filled in the FAFSA for my two college kids for the year 2020-21 and after submitting it, we received a higher EFC for each kid compared to year. I wondered why it was much different this time. There isn’t much change in our combined wages, savings, and investments. Going back to review their individual FAFSA, I made the mistake of putting 1 as the number of college students in our household instead of 2. I initially misunderstood the instruction as the number of college students beside the applicant. After correcting both, my kids’ EFC are down to where we were last year. My question is, with this correction, will we be mostly be a candidate for verification? If so, do you think its easily verified by the information provided in their FAFSA that there are two kids attending college next year?
Most likely not, especially if you don’t qualify for Pell.
We don’t qualify for Pell.
