I had a question, I graduated High School in 2002 and attended first semester of community college and had to stop my school circumstances in my life. I worked from there on out until now and bought a house. I pay monthly mortgage but i have a few family members who also help out. I would like to go back to college this upcoming spring semester. I wanted to know would i be eligible for FAFSA? I would most likely stop working and do school full time. If anyone has been in a similar situation, please advise.

FAFSA is just a screening test for federal financial aid for college. If you become a student again you can file the FAFSA. You will be eligible for a $5.5K loan as a freshman. If you are low enough in income you might also get <$6K for a Pell Grant. Is that going to be enough to live on and attend school?

FAFSA isn’t a screening test. It is a financial aid application form. Your primary residence is NOT even considered by the FAFSA in its calculations. The information from the FAFSA is sent to the colleges who determine need based aid based on their policies.

If you are eligible for any entitlement federal aid…the Pell Grant, you will receive that. You will also be able to take out a Direct Loan. Because you would be considered an independent student (you are over 24 years of age), you would be able to get $9500 in Direct Loans for your first year ($4000 more than a dependent for financial aid purposes).
