Is is true that some of the colleges award aid through a first come first served basis? Would it be advantageous to apply for aid early?

Some colleges say that aid is given first-come first-served. But I've not heard of anyone getting short changed so long as they apply by the colleges' priority deadline.

I went to a Financial Aide workshop with a very good financial aid consultant in New England and she said BE FIRST IN LINE! She repeated it over and over again. She said estimate and you can amend later if you are not certain about figures.

Again, she said, if you take nothing else from the workshop, be first in line...I suppose it may give a slight edge in some cases, but I figure, it cannot hurt!
