I know the student is considered independent for FAFSA purposes because they already have an undergraduate degree. However, I recall on of the questions being that a Medical or Dental school student may want to include their parent's information on the FAFSA.

So I have two questions: Do they HAVE to include their parents information? If not, does it help or hurt to include it?

Yes, while you are on the one hand considered an independent student for FAFSA purposes, from what I have seen (as the parent of a prospective law school student) is that professsional schools still request the financial aid information of your parents (at some of the law schools, my D is looking at the exemption will come when she is 30 years old. Now if only I can get her to put it off for 8 years :) ).

If you don't include your parent's information, your financial aid package will be considered incomplete (remember the process still goes forward while your file is on hold) and you will not be considered for aid until you have completed the paperwork.

Your best bet would be to go to the finanial aid website of the dental schools that you are interested in applying to as they will tell you how financial aid is handled at their school.
