FAFSA Form for Canadian student?

Hey guys,

I was wondering whether as a Canadian student I need to fill out the FAFSA. I looked at some school websites and they say that Canadian's don't need the FAFSA, however, others do not distinguish (do not say if, as Canadians, we need or don't need the FAFSA). So, I'd like to know if I am required to fill out a FAFSA form?

School list is a few ivies, duke, and Stanford. Safeties are Canadian schools

FAFSA is an acronym for Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and is used as a baseline for administering US federal grants, loans, and other aid sponsored and or guaranteed by the US government. As a Canadian citizen, and therefore not eligible for US government sponsored college assistance I would assume that you would not need to complete a FAFSA.

There are some institutions that use the FAFSA in determining allocation of institution based grants and financial assitance. If you are in doubt, I suggest you call or email the financial aid office of the particular schools that you are applying to. Many have specific criteria for international students and some treat Canadian applicants a bit differently (by way of required paperwork) than they do other international applicants.
