I need to apply for FAFSA '09, however it asks for your family's income from the previous year ('08). In 2008, our income was over $130,000 but in 2009 my dad was laid off and our current income is around $30,000.

Is there any way to show FAFSA this info because I seriously need financial aid. I'm trying to transfer to UT and I'll be needing at least 75% of the total cost in scholarships+loans. What should I do?

I think you can write a letter showing why you need more aid...it has a name but can't place it right now. A friend of mine did this last year when his parents lost their company. He was given a work study job and a grant. Call the finaid office and ask.

You would file your FAFSA. Then contact the school and explain you have special circumstances. They will tell you their school's process for requesting a special circumstances consideration. They will tell you what to do...and how they want it done. You will want to be able to document your family financial situation. You will need the lay off slip for your dad, and any other supporting documentation that details your change in finances.

I think you would have to contact each school. I don't know of any 'form letter'.
It's up to the FA officer to decide to use the information as a special circumstance, or not.
